KC man accused of murder in fatal shooting of man after fight over stolen vehicle
A 29-year-old Kansas City man is facing a murder charge after he allegedly shot and killed a man he was arguing with about a stolen vehicle, prosecutors announced Tuesday.
The Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office charged Tyler J. Parris with one count each of second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon.
Parris also faces two counts of armed criminal action in the shooting death of 46-year-old Richard Ennis of Kansas City.
According to court documents, Kansas City police officers were dispatched around 1:45 p.m. on Feb. 16 to the Veterans Affairs Hospital at 4801 E. Linwood Avenue after two witnesses dropped off a shooting victim.
When officers arrived, VA police and medical staff told them that the victim, whom police later identified as Ennis, did not survive, according to documents. Witnesses told police that the shooting occurred in the 2900 block of Brighton Avenue.
Witnesses told police that moments before the shooting, Parris and the victim had been arguing about a stolen vehicle, according to court documents. Parris then allegedly fired three or four shots at Ennis, striking him. Parris then fled the scene in a truck.
A witness told police that they drove Ennis to the VA Hospital because it was the closest hospital.
If convicted, Parris faces up to 30 years in prison on the murder charge. He is being held in the Jackson County jail on a $200,000 cash only bond.
