Kansas City police seek suspect after man fatally shot on Brighton Avenue Monday
Kansas City police are investigating a homicide after a man was found shot Monday afternoon in the 2900 block of Brighton Avenue.
Officers were initially dispatched on a reported shooting around 1:45 p.m. to the Veterans Affairs Hospital, where the injured man was taken. At the hospital, several people told police that the shooting had occurred on Brighton Avenue, an emailed news release said.
VA hospital staff told officers at that time that the victim had died, the release said.
According to preliminary information, a witness said she was inside her home when she heard “several sounds of shots” outside.
“She exited the residence and located an adult male victim, lying in the street suffering from apparent gunshot trauma,” said Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a spokesperson with the Kansas City Police Department. “An adult male suspect was seen entering an unknown vehicle and left the area in an unknown direction.”
This marks Kansas City’s 18th homicide this year, according to data tracked by The Star.
