Woman, man shot dead in Kansas City; Police seek tips as information limited

A woman and a man died after a double shooting on Tuesday evening behind an apartment building in Kansas City, a police spokesman said.

Officers responded at 9:30 p.m. after multiple callers reported shots being fired behind an apartment building in the 1300 block of East Armour Boulevard, said Capt. Jake Becchina with the Kansas City Police Department.

Arriving officers were directed to an apartment’s parking lot, where they found the woman and the man unresponsive inside a vehicle, Becchina said. An emergency medical crew declared both victims dead at the scene.

Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators collected evidence and looked for potential witnesses.

Preliminary information, including details about any suspects or the circumstances leading up to the shooting, was limited, Becchina said. Detectives hope anyone with information will come forward.

The killings are Kansas City’s 12th and 13th homicides of the year, according to data tracked by The Star. That compares to 21 homicides reported by this time last year.

Detectives urged anyone with information about the homicide to call the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS (8477). Tips submitted anonymously to the hotline may be eligible for a reward of up to $25,000.

Tipsters may also call homicide detectives directly at 816-234-5043.
