Woman injured after police officer fires gun during arrest in Kansas City

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating after an officer with the Kansas City Police Department fired a gun at a subject during a burglary arrest Sunday morning.

Police were called around 2:20 a.m. to the area of the 9500 block of Blue Ridge Boulevard on a report of several people breaking into a building and a storage container, according to a post on X from the Missouri State Highway Patrol A.

Officers at the scene located three subjects, and all fled on foot, including a man and a woman who ran to a nearby vehicle, according to the post.

An altercation occurred at the vehicle while the officers were taking the two into custody, and an officer fired their duty weapon.

The woman, who was in the driver’s seat, was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the post. Two men were also taken into a custody.

MSHP’s division of drug and crime control is investigating the officer-involved shooting and the Kansas City Police Department is investigating the burglary. Upon the completion of the investigation, MSHP will send its report to the Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney.
