3 injured, including 2 juveniles, in single-vehicle crash near downtown KC
Three people were injured, including one juvenile with life-threatening injuries, after a single-vehicle crash in Kansas City on Sunday morning.
First responders were called around 4:30 a.m. to Southbound Interstate 35, at the point of the downtown loop where it splits with eastbound I-70, westbound I-670 and the southbound 71 Highway , according to Sgt. Phil DiMartino, spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department.
Preliminary investigation revealed a teal Nissan Altima was speeding south on I-35 near the highway split and failed to pick a lane, driving off the road and striking the concrete support for the overhead highway signs, DiMartino said.
The driver of the Nissan was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and is currently stable.
Two juveniles were in the back. One sustained serious injuries and one had life-threatening injuries, according to DiMartino. One of the juveniles is in critical condition, and the second is in stable condition.
The investigation, including a suspected impairment of the Nissan driver, is ongoing.
