Police find man shot to death near residence on Kensington Ave Tuesday
Police found a man shot to death after a disturbance near a residence in Kansas City’s Knoches Park neighborhood Tuesday.
Officers responded around 10:15 p.m. to the 3100 block of Kensington Ave after a caller asked for help for an unknown reason, according to Capt. Jake Becchina, a police spokesman.
When they arrived, officers spoke to people in the area who heard the sound of a disturbance followed by what they thought could have been gunfire, Becchina said.
Officers checked the area and found a man lying unresponsive on the ground next to a residence. They rendered medical aid to the man until paramedics took over and pronounced him dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation indicates the man who died was shot after an interaction with unknown suspects escalated to gunfire, Becchina said.
Detectives classified the man’s death as a homicide and have been looking for witnesses as crime scene personnel process the scene for evidence.
Police have not yet publicly identified the man who died.
No suspect information was immediately available Wednesday.
The killing is Kansas City’s 132nd homicide of 2025, according to data maintained by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. At this time last year, the city had recorded 143 homicides.
