Platte County man sentenced to 36 years in prison for molestation, incest of child
A Weatherby Lake, Missouri, man was sentenced this month to 36 years in prison for molesting a 5-year-old girl, court records show.
Nicholas Goss, 36, pleaded guilty in May to two counts of first degree statutory sodomy or attempted statutory sodomy with someone under the age of 12, and one count of incest, according to court records. He was sentenced on Nov. 10 by Circuit Judge Ann Hansbrough in the Platte County Circuit Court.
Goss was initially charged in July 2017.
“After this defendant committed unspeakable acts on this little child, she immediately told her caretakers what happened,” said Eric Zahnd, Platte County Prosecuting Attorney, in a press release. “I hope this sentence sends the message that we will not tolerate any instance of sexual abuse against a child in Platte County.”
The child was taken to Children’s Mercy Hospital for a sexual assault nursing examination after she came forward to her parents. She also completed a child forensic interview with Synergy Services, according to the release.
When confronted with the allegations by a detective with the Platte County Sheriff’s Office, Goss — a family member — admitted to molesting the child, according to the release.
“This defendant will spend decades in prison for sexually abusing a child. Children are our future, and it’s good when anyone who abuses a child forfeits their future,” Zahnd said .
Prosecutors had sought a total sentence of 40 years imprisonment. Goss will serve 30 years behind bars before he is eligible for parole.
