Man who fatally shot KCK 6-year-old sentenced to 25 years in prison

A man who pleaded guilty to the fatal shooting of a 6-year-old in Kansas City, Kansas, earlier this year was sentenced to 25 years in prison this week, according to Wyandotte County District Court records.

Lakevis Sloan, 23, of Kansas City, Kansas, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, aggravated assault and aggravated child endangerment this past May.

The plea agreement allowed the state and Sloan to argue for sentences ranging from 15 to 26 years. Attorneys representing Sloan filed a motion Tuesday asking for a 15-year sentence. They argued circumstances such as Sloan’s age, his guilty plea as accepting responsibility and “significant mental health issues” qualify Sloan for a shorter sentence, court documents show.

A judge sentenced Sloan Wednesday to 25 years in prison, which he will serve in the Kansas Department of Corrections.

Sloan will also have 15 years of post-release supervision after he serves his sentence, according to a spokesman for the Wyandotte County District Court.

Sloan was initially charged with first-degree murder after the death of 6-year-old Sir’Antonio Brown on May 3, 2023.

Sir’Antonio was playing outside with his relatives when he was struck by crossfire outside a KCK home in the 3100 block of Greeley Avenue.

Three masked shooters fired multiple rounds onto the property, police said.

Sloan and a 17-year-old were arrested after the shooting when law enforcement found them at a bus station in South Dakota.
