Man pleads guilty in 2023 death of KCK boy, 6
Lakevis Sloan of Kansas City, Kansas, pleaded guilty Friday to the fatal shooting of a 6-year-old boy who was playing outside when a shooting broke out near his home in May 2023.
Sir’Antonio Brown died in the crossfire outside a KCK home in the 3100 block of Greeley Avenue when three masked shooters fired multiple rounds on the property. Police at the time said the gunmen were targeting a relative of Brown. The child was enjoying an early summer afternoon with his relatives at the time of the shooting.
Sloan and a 17-year-old were arrested shortly after the shooting when law enforcement found them at a bus station in South Dakota.
In a morning hearing, Sloan filed a guilty plea to second-degree murder, aggravated assault and child endangerment. He faces up to 56 years in prison, up to $700,000 in fines and up to three years of court supervision after his release, according to the plea. His sentencing is set for 9 a.m. Aug. 15 in KCK.
