Shooting kills woman in KC’s Blue Hills neighborhood. Police have few leads
A woman died after being shot late Saturday in the Blue Hills neighborhood of Kansas City, a police spokeswoman said.
Officers responded around 10:15 p.m. to investigate a report of gunshots being fired in the 5200 block of Euclid Avenue. While on their way, the officers were informed that someone had been shot, said Officer Alayna Gonzalez with the Kansas City Police Department.
There, officers found an unresponsive woman suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and declared the woman dead, Gonzalez said.
Police on Sunday identified victim as 48-year-old Stephonne M. Jones.
Police do not have any preliminary information on what led up to the shooting. Gonzalez said it was not known if the gunshots came from someone on foot or in a vehicle. Police have not identified any suspects and do not have anyone in custody.

The killing is the Kansas City’s 108th homicide of the year, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. That’s up from 106 homicides reported by this time last year.
