Johnson County man tried to kill a woman, then fled police, prosecutors allege

Johnson County prosecutors have charged a Mission man with attempted murder in connection with a shooting over the weekend, according to court records.

Isaiah Chritsian Joest is charged with attempted second-degree murder, criminal discharge of a firearm, fleeing from law enforcement and battery of a law enforcement officer.

Officers with the Mission Police Department responded Sunday morning to a call for the sound of gunfire in the 5100 block of Foxridge Drive. Through a preliminary investigation, officers discovered the shooting happened in a domestic violence incident, according to Police Chief Dan Madden.

Prosecutors allege that Joest shot into a vehicle while a woman was inside, intending to harm her. Joest then allegedly fled from police after the shooting.

According to a criminal complaint, Joest then allegedly had physical contact with a law enforcement officer.

Madden said no one was injured in the incident.

Joest appeared in court for the first time on Monday. He is being held on a $250,000 bond in the Johnson County Jail in Olathe.

He is due to appear in court for a preliminary hearing at 11 a.m. on May 23 in Division 5 of Johnson County District Court.
