Missouri woman killed, teen seriously injured in crash near Kearney

A fatal crash killed one woman and seriously injured another in Clay County near Kearney Monday, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Troopers responded to the crash around 10:13 a.m. on Missouri Route 92, east of Highway A. The crash happened when a 2024 Chevy Malibu driving west crossed the center line at the top of a hill. The Malibu struck a 2020 Nissan Sentra driving east, according to an online crash report.

The driver of the Malibu, a 34-year-old woman from Smithville, was taken to a hospital where she was later pronounced dead. She was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash, according to the highway patrol.

The highway patrol has notified the family, but has not yet identified the victim.

The driver of the Sentra, a 19-year-old woman from Kearney, was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, according to the crash report.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
