Woman killed in KC after argument leads to afternoon gunfire, police say

A woman was shot and killed in east Kansas City Monday afternoon, after police said a fight with another woman led to gunfire.
Officers were dispatched to 1600 Topping Avenue at 12:30 p.m. for reports of a shooting, according to Kansas City police spokesperson Cpt. Jake Becchina. Officers were directed to an alleyway next to a home where they found a woman who was struck by gunfire and unresponsive.
Officers rendered aid before emergency medical responders transported the woman to the hospital, where she died shortly after. One suspect, a woman, was detained for further investigation, police said.
Initial investigation shows the victim and the suspect had an interaction next to the house which escalated, and shots were fired, Becchina said.

This is the 57th homicide this year in Kansas City, compared to 51 at this time last year, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes officer-involved shootings.
