Police release photo of vehicle that allegedly injured pedestrian and fled in Westport
Kansas City police are asking for help identifying and locating a vehicle suspected of critically injuring a pedestrian and fleeing the scene Saturday in Westport.
The white Dodge Challenger, which struck and critically injured a pedestrian around 3 a.m. at the intersection of Broadway Boulevard and Westport Road, has black rims and a sunroof, police said.
Police added the two-door vehicle is missing a driver’s side headlight and has damage on its front driver’s side bumper.
Officers patrolling saw the Dodge doing burnouts near the intersection, but it left at a high speed when a police car approached with its lights on, said Sgt. Jake Becchina, a spokesman with the Kansas City Police Department.
When the Dodge went through the intersection, it struck a pedestrian crossing from east to west and fled the scene.
The pedestrian, who family identified as Augie Adan, was hospitalized with critical injuries. His sister wrote in a GoFundMe that doctors had to amputate his left leg above the knee and also operated on a broken pelvis.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the family raised more than $16,600 to help pay for Adan’s in-patient and out-patient care as well as a prothetic leg.
