Driver fleeing police in Kansas City’s Westport hits, critically injures pedestrian
A driver in Kansas City allegedly struck and critically injured a pedestrian in the Westport Entertainment District early Saturday morning while attempting to escape police.
Just before 3 a.m., officers patrolling the area noticed a white Dodge doing burnouts south of the Broadway Boulevard and Westport Road intersection, according to a statement from the Kansas City Police Department.
As officers attempted to pull over the vehicle, the driver sped away, police say.
While going through the intersection, the driver hit a pedestrian attempting to cross the street.
The Dodge continued to flee the scene, and the pedestrian was transported to the hospital with critical injuries.
Police have not released any further information about the wreck.
