Police closed off multiple roads in downtown Kansas City through early Friday afternoon to investigate a suspicious bag.

A “questionable book bag” was reported in the area late Friday morning, said Officer Alayna Gonzalez, with the Kansas City Police Department.

Police temporarily closed McGee Street and Locust Street from 11th to 13th streets as officers with KCPD’s bomb and arson squad “took precautionary measures to ensure the safety of all community members in the area,” Gonzalez said.

The scene was cleared early Friday afternoon, Gonzalez said in a update at 12:36 p.m.

The Jackson County Courthouse and City Hall are located within the area that was closed; however, neither were evacuated.
