Man dies two months after alleged attack in Kansas City; police investigate homicide
A man died from his injuries two months after an alleged attack that put him in a coma, according to police.
Officers responded around 2 a.m. on May 1 to 6300 Blue Parkway, where they found 69-year-old Rajesh Patel injured in the parking lot, said Officer Alayna Gonzalez, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City Police Department.
Patel was transported to a hospital but fell into a coma as a result of his injuries, Gonzalez said.
On Monday, police learned that Patel died from his injuries. Officials are investigating the death as a homicide.
A person of interest is in custody.
The killing was the 110th homicide in Kansas City this year, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. At this time last year, there had been 87 killings.
