A 36-year-old man and 70-year-old woman living in an Olathe home were found dead Thursday with gunshot wounds in an alleged murder-suicide, according to Sgt. Joel Yeldell, a spokesman for Olathe police.

Authorities are investigating after two family members were discovered dead at their Olathe home in what police believe to be a murder-suicide.

Officers responded to requests for a welfare check Thursday at 4:20 p.m. in the 1300 block of South Brougham Drive, according to Sgt. Joel Yeldell, a spokesman for Olathe police.

They discovered a 70-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man dead inside the residence.

A police investigation determined the pair were family members living in the home. They each had suffered injuries from gunshot wounds.

The 70-year-old woman’s injury appeared to be self-inflicted, Yeldell said.

There were no outstanding suspects identified, he said. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the shooting to call the Olathe Police Department at 913-971-6363 or anonymously through the tips hotline at 816-474-8477.
