A double shooting killed a man and seriously injured a woman early Friday in the Victory Hills neighborhood of Kansas City, Kansas, a police spokeswoman said.

Officers responded to the shooting shortly after midnight at a home in the 8500 block of Georgia Avenue, said Nancy Chartrand, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.

Arriving officers found both victims had been struck by gunfire. Emergency medical workers took the woman to a hospital in serious condition. The man was pronounced dead at the scene, Chartrand said.

No suspect information was released.

The killing is the seventh homicide in Kansas City, Kansas, this year, according to data tracked by The Star. There were 12 killings by this time last year.
