Man fatally shot Wednesday afternoon in south Kansas City apartment complex: police
Update: The victim was identified as 19-year-old Devin Cunningham.
A man was found fatally shot inside a south Kansas City apartment on Wednesday afternoon, according to police.
Kansas City police officers were dispatched around 3:45 p.m. to the shooting in the 200 block of West 100th Terrace, said Capt. Leslie Foreman, a department spokeswoman. Officers responding to the scene located the victim inside a unit and attempted life-saving measures until emergency medical personnel arrived, she said.
The gunshot victim was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead there, Foreman said.
Police detained several people on scene in regard to the shooting, Foreman said. She said police were not searching for other suspects as of Wednesday afternoon. She added that detectives would be speaking with those in police custody to learn about the events that occurred prior to the shooting.
The shooting occurred within the Willow Creek Apartments, a sprawling gated community in Kansas City’s Willow Creek neighborhood. Foreman said the crime scene was mostly contained to one apartment.
The homicide marks the 82nd killing so far this year in Kansas City, according to data tracked by The Star, which includes police shootings. At this time last year, the city had recorded 79 homicides.
