Police investigate homicide after person found dead at Kansas City apartment

Update: Police identified the victim as 31-year-old Terylle Gorham.

Kansas City police are investigating a homicide after a man died in a shooting Tuesday morning.

Shortly after 9 a.m., officers with the Kansas City Police Department responded to a shooting call to the Swope Plaza Estates near 49th street and Bellefontaine Avenue, said Sgt. Jake Becchina, a spokesman with the department.

Dispatchers also heard several gunshots during the 911 call.

When officers arrived they found the man in a parking lot suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical crews declared the man dead at the scene, Becchina said.

There is no suspect information.

The killing is the 58th homicide of the year in Kansas City, according to data tracked by The Star. By this time last year — the second deadliest year on record — the city had seen 56 homicides.

Anyone with information can contact the homicide unit at 816-234-5043. Anonymous tips can be reported to Crime Stoppers at 816-474-8477. There is a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in this case.
