One man killed in shooting Friday afternoon in Kansas City, Kansas

Kansas City, Kansas police responded to calls of a shooting around 1:30 p.m. Friday at a residence near North 10th Street and Everett Avenue. Officers arrived and discovered a man who was later pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives are canvassing the scene as part of an ongoing investigation.

A man died in a shooting Friday afternoon, according to police in Kansas City, Kansas.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting around 1:30 p.m. at a residence near North 10th Street and Everett Avenue, said Nancy Chartrand, a spokeswoman for the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department.

When police arrived, they found the man unresponsive inside the home, she said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police officers and detectives were out on scene Friday afternoon in search of potential witnesses. Officer Marshee London, a police spokeswoman, said that detectives were interviewing witnesses in search of a suspect.

It was not immediately clear what led up to the shooting, London said.

The shooting unfolded at a house on a residential street near the corner of Everett Avenue and 10th Street. Crime scene tape was placed around the home as a small group of people hugged and cried on large lawn near the house.

This is the 12th homicide in Kansas City, Kansas, so far this year, according to data tracked by The Star. At this time last year, there had been nine homicides in KCK.
