Family raises money to bury father of 2 killed in Kansas City shooting last month
Family of a 33-year-old father killed late last month in Kansas City is asking for help burying their loved one.
Anthony Villarreal was shot to death on March 25. Officers were called at about 4 p.m. to the 2400 block of Quincy Street that day on reports of shots fired, police said at the time.
There they found Villarreal, who was taken to the hospital where he later died.
“His passing was so sudden it still doesn’t even feel real,” his sister, Alexiz Meza, wrote on the family’s GoFundMe page. “It’s a death that has hit our family so hard. He was loved by many. He had a goofy personality and could always make you laugh.”
Villarreal is survived by a son and daughter, family said.
The fundraiser garnered about $2,500 in donations as of Sunday morning.
Villarreal was the 34th person killed in Kansas City this year. Since then, three more people have been killed according to data maintained by The Star, which includes police killings. Last year there were 157 homicides citywide, the second-deadliest on record.
