Teenager shot and killed Saturday in Kansas City, Kansas

A 15-year-old boy died at a hospital after he was shot multiple times Saturday evening in Kansas City, Kansas, a police spokesman said.

Police responded to the shooting about 6 p.m. in the 4400 block of Adams Street in the Rosedale area of Kansas City, Kansas.

Arriving officers found the boy in the street with life-threatening gunshot wounds, said Officer Dustin Dierenfeldt, a police spokesman. Police later identified the victim as Luis Velasquez-Chavez.

“The individual was transported to the hospital and has since passed from those wounds,” Dierenfeldt said.

No one was in custody in the shooting. No suspect information was available.

Detectives and crime scene investigators remained at the scene several hours, following up on leads and collecting evidence.

The killing is the 39th homicide of the year in Kansas City, Kansas, according to Dierenfeldt. That compares to 23 homicides by this time last year.

In the entire Kansas City metro area, there have been 211 homicides this year.

Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477) or police dispatch at 913-596-3000.
