Police investigating homicide after woman is found shot to death in Kansas City home

Update: Police have identified the victim as Tara D. Price, 32, of Kansas City.

Police are investigating a homicide after a woman was found shot to death early Monday in a Kansas City home, a police spokesman said.

Officers responded about 3:45 a.m. to a home in the 5400 block of Swope Parkway on a report of a shooting, said Sgt. Jacob Becchina, a spokesman for Kansas City police.

A caller met officers at the home and said that someone had been shot inside, Becchina said. Once inside, officers found an unresponsive woman in her 30s who had been shot.

Emergency medical crews declared her deceased at the scene, he said.

While crime scene investigators collected evidence at the scene, detectives canvased the area looking for anyone who might have seen or heard anything, Becchina said.

Anyone with information about the deadly shooting is asked to call homicide directly at 816-234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477). A reward of up to $25,000 is available for information leading to an arrest in this case.

The killing marked the 135th this year in Kansas City, according to data maintained by The Star, which includes police shootings. There had been 104 homicides by this time last year.

Across the entire Kansas City metro area, there have been 193 homicides so far this year.

Gun violence will be the subject of a new, statewide journalism project The Star is undertaking in Missouri this year in partnership with the national service program Report for America and sponsored in part by Missouri Foundation for Health. As part of this project, The Star will seek the community’s help.
