Week after finding decomposing body, Kansas City police launch homicide investigation
Roughly a week after Kansas City police found a body decomposing in a wooded area they are investigating the death as a homicide.
In an email Tuesday afternoon, Kansas City Police Department spokeswoman Doaa El-Ashkar said the death of the person found on August 10 in the 4800 block of Prospect Avenue is now considered a homicide.
Police do not yet know the identity of the victim, El-Ashkar said.
Officers found the body after a caller notified them about it.
The death brings Kansas City to 128 total homicides in 2020 according to data kept by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings.
Anyone with information about the person’s death is asked to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
