Man charged with murder in Independence shooting that left his wife dead Sunday
A Kansas City man has been charged in a shooting Sunday that left his wife dead.
Larnell McDonald, 63, was charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action, the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office announced Monday.
As Independence police officers responded to a domestic dispute Sunday night in the 2600 block of South Arlington Avenue, they heard a gunshot.
Officers were told that McDonald called 911 and said he needed officers at the residence.
He exited and was detained.
According to charging documents, McDonald said a gun went off accidentally.
Officers located Kimah McDonald, 44, in a bedroom with a gunshot wound. She was declared dead at the scene.
A detective contacted the victim’s brother, who showed investigators a text message sent three minutes before police were dispatched which said “Call the police and send them to my address,” court documents said.
During an interview with police, Larnell McDonald said he and his wife were getting separated and had been in an argument.
He told detectives the gun “just went off,” court documents said, and “I shouldn’t have did it.”
Bond has been set at $150,000, prosecutors said.
