Body found in Missouri River beside Sugar Creek park; police working to ID victim

A body was found Sunday morning in the Missouri River in Sugar Creek, police said.

Members of the Sugar Creek Police Department were called just after 8:30 a.m. to LaBenite Park after a caller said they found a corpse in the river, according to a news release from the police department.

Police helped recover the body from the water.

The victim’s identity and cause of death were not known as of Sunday afternoon, police said.

A death investigation is ongoing.
