2 people injured, including officer, during shooting investigation in Kansas City, KS
Two people were injured, including a Kansas City, Kansas, police officer, when an unknown number of people fired shots at them from a tree line during a shooting investigation Monday, police said.
The officer received minor injuries from the shooting. The other person was struck by gunfire and had non-life-threatening injuries, according to a release from Officer Tom Tomasic, a spokesman for the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department.
Officers initially responded to a reported shooting late Monday in the 5100 block of Farrow Avenue where they found a victim with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, Tomasic said.
While investigating that shooting, police received information that a person-of-interest was at a home in the 1900 block of North Allis Street. Police responded to the home and took a person into custody in the shooting, Tomasic said.
As officers were leaving, an unknown number of persons started firing at officers and the home from a nearby tree line. One of the residents of the home was struck by gunfire and the officer was injured, Tomasic said.
One of the officers returned fire before the shooters ran away, he said. Police continued to look for those responsible. No suspect information was available.
The Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department’s Major Case Unit is investigating the shooting and asks anyone with information to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
