KC man accused of tracking down, fatally shooting 25-year-old girlfriend Sunday
A Kansas City man has been charged with tracking down and fatally shooting his girlfriend Sunday at her friend’s house, according to prosecutors.
DeCarlos Carrell, 27, was charged with second-degree murder and other felonies in the killing of 25-year-old Briana Johnson, who was shot about 4 a.m. in the 7100 block of Bales Avenue.
Three people who were at the home with Johnson told police that her boyfriend, “Carlos,” shot her.
One witness said she was awakened when her daughter told her a man with a gun was at the door and looking for Johnson. He allegedly yelled: “I know she in there,” “open the door” and “I got somethin’ for you.”
When he was turned away from the home, Carrell fired a gunshot that broke a window and struck Johnson, killing her, according to Jackson County prosecutors. A witness shouted: “He shot her!”
After shooting Johnson, Carrell fired six rounds into the victim’s car, prosecutors alleged.
Video obtained from a neighbor showed a man ring his doorbell, identify himself as “Carlos” and say he was looking for “Briana,” according to charging documents.
A witness then identified Carrell out of a lineup as the man who came to the door, police said.
Prosecutors requested Carrell’s bond be set at $150,000.
Carrell did not yet have an attorney listed in court records who could be reached for comment.
