Kansas City police investigating homicide behind apartment complex off I-49
A woman died Friday morning after a shooting at an apartment complex off Interstate 49 near Missouri 150 highway, police said.
Kansas City Police Department officers were dispatched to the Cloverleaf Apartments just before 7 a.m., said Detective Kevin Boehm. Officers and paramedics found a woman behind the apartment complex suffering from gunshot injuries.
The woman was transported to a hospital, where she died, Boehm said.
Boehm said there have been four other homicides at the apartment in the past 12 to 16 months. Police are working with management, he said, to address the issues.
No suspect information was immediately available.
The shooting is Kansas City’s 112th homicide this year according to data kept by The Star, which includes fatal police shootings. There had been 80 by this time last year.
Police are asking anyone with information to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-874-8477.
Gun violence will be the subject of a new, statewide journalism project The Star is undertaking in Missouri this year in partnership with the national service program Report for America and sponsored in part by Missouri Foundation for Health. As part of this project, The Star will seek the community’s help.
