One person dies, another injured following double shooting in Independence

One person is dead and another is in the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after a double shooting Thursday evening in Independence, police said.

Officers responded to the shooting about 6:25 p.m. in the 18800 block of East Wigwam Place in northeast Independence.

Arriving officers found the two victims. They were taken to hospitals and in an update at 9:50 p.m., police said one of the victims died. The second victim was reported to be in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.

The shooting was being investigated as a homicide, police said. No suspect information was available.

This is the fifth homicide in Independence this year, according to data kept by The Star, which includes police shootings. That compares to four homicides in the city by this time last year.
