Police investigate double shooting that kills man, injures brother in Grandview

The Kansas City Metro Squad is investigating a double shooting that killed a man and injured his brother at a Grandview apartment complex, Grandview police said.

Officers responded to reports of shots being fired about 10:30 p.m. Sunday at the Briarwood Apartments complex in the 6100 block of East 126th Street.

Arriving officers found two men who had been shot. The victims, brothers who lived together at the apartment complex, were rushed to a hospital where the younger brother, a 20-year-old man, was pronounced dead, police said

The other victim, a 22-year-old man, underwent surgery and was listed in stable, but critical condition, police said.

Witnesses told police that at least two people were seen leaving the area of the homicide in a black sedan. A light-colored sedan was seen in the area and is believed to be connected to the deadly shooting, police said.

The Metro Squad, which provides experienced investigators to work on crimes throughout the Kansas City area commonly to smaller agencies, was activated Monday to help investigate the homicide.

This is Grandview’s second homicide of the year, according to data maintained by The Star which includes police shootings. That compares with three homicides by this time in 2019.

Across the Kansas City metropolitan area, there have been 159 homicides reported this year.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
