Chase ends with suspect vehicle crashing on I-435; police investigating for impairment

A person was injured Monday afternoon in a crash after allegedly driving through a crime scene and leading police on a chase in Kansas City.

The incident happened around 2:10 p.m.

According to a statement from Kansas City police, officers were working at a large crime scene at Linwood Boulevard and Kensington Avenue when a GMC Yukon disregarded traffic control and drove eastbound through the scene, nearly striking police officers.

Police tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver allegedly refused to pull over.

Officers began pursuing the vehicle, police stated, because the driver appeared to be impaired.

The pursuit continued on to the southbound lanes of Interstate 435, where the driver lost control, left the road and crashed in some heavy brush. The wreck was reported on the interstate between Missouri 350 and Gregory Boulevard.

The driver was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered to be life-threatening.

A passenger in the vehicle was not injured.

The investigation into the crash was ongoing.
