Kidnapping, robbery suspect arrested after police chase starts in Liberty, ends in KC
A kidnapping and robbery suspect is in custody after a police chase that started in Liberty and ended on Interstate 435 near Cookingham Drive, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.
The stretch of Interstate 435 where the chase ended was briefly shut down Thursday afternoon, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation.
The kidnapping and robbery was initially reported Wednesday afternoon at a car wash in the 1100 block of Missouri Street in Liberty, police said in a Twitter post.
The suspect allegedly forced a woman to go to another location and then brought her back to the car wash, according to Liberty Police Captain Andrew Hedrick.
At 11 a.m. Liberty police released photos of the suspect and car they were still searching for.
Officers found the car and attempted to stop it at Liberty Commons near Conistor Street and Stewart Road around noon Thursday. The car did not stop and officers pursued it, Hedrick said.
Liberty police, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the Kansas City Police Department and the Clay County Sheriff’s Office were all involved in the chase.
Formal charges are pending, Hedrick said.
