Possible road rage leads to shooting that wounded driver on I-470 in Lee’s Summit

The driver of a sedan fired about a dozen gunshots into a pickup truck Thursday afternoon on Interstate 470 in Lee’s Summit, wounding its operator, police said.

Officers responded to the shooting about 4:45 p.m. on westbound Interstate 470, just before the Blue Parkway exit, according to the Lee’s Summit Police Department.

Witnesses told police the pickup truck changed lanes on the highway. It appeared the driver did not see the sedan approaching in that same lane, police said. The sedan drove into the shoulder and sped around the truck.

Then the driver of the sedan slowed down and fired 10 to 15 rounds in the passenger side of the truck, according to police. The pickup truck driver was shot at least once. The sedan left the area.

The victim, whose condition was not known, was taken to a hospital.

Police described the suspect vehicle as a four-door sedan, possibly a Chevrolet Impala or a similar type of vehicle. Witnesses thought it had Missouri license plates and dark windows.

Detectives asked anyone with information to call the police department’s tips hotline at 816-969-1752.
