Rain, thunderstorms to move in after another hot day in Kansas City

It’s going to be another hot day in the Kansas City metro Thursday before the next storm system sweeps across the area, said FOX4 meteorologist Karli Ritter.

“Later on today, we’re going to be talking about another hot forecast — upper 80s to low 90s are expected,” said Ritter, who provides weather updates to The Star. “We are anticipating a lot of sunshine with just a few clouds later in the day.”

The chance of rain will return overnight and throughout the Friday.

“Now tomorrow morning, we may have most of the rain just north or west of Kansas City, but eventually we will have some rain chances here in town, although it’s not going to be a total washout for Friday,” Ritter said. “The same for Saturday. We have off-and-on rain in our forecast, not only in the morning but for the evening as well.”

Father’s Day looks like it will be pretty dry during the day, but the chance for rain returns Sunday night into Monday.

“We’ll be cooling down with more 80s for highs versus 90s as we settle into the weekend and early next week,” Ritter said.

The National Weather Service in Kansas City said no severe weather is expected, but a strong storm or two is possible in far northeast Kansas and northwest Missouri. Gusty winds and locally heavy rain will be the primary threats with the stronger storms.

Some storms may be possible on Saturday as well.
