Olathe mom sentenced for attempted murder of kids, seeking hit man for ex-husband
An Olathe woman has been sentenced to 28 years in prison for attempting to poison her three children and subsequently trying to hire a hit man to kill her former husband.
Therese Irine Roever, 39, received the sentence after pleading guilty to three counts of attempted murder and one count of criminal threat, according to the Johnson County District Attorney’s office.
When she is released, Roever will have to register as a violent offender, District Attorney Steve Howe said.
Prosecutors have said Roever tried to kill the children with an overdose of a non-prescribed medication.
Olathe officers responding to a call in the 1700 block of North Lennox Street found Roever and the children inside a residence and determined they required medical attention. Police thought they ingested a substance meant to harm them.
They were rushed to hospitals in serious condition and survived, but doctors said two of the children would have died if they had been found later, according to court documents.
Roever and her former husband were involved in litigation over custody of the children, twins born in 2010 and a son born in 2012, according to court records. Roever was arrested and charged in February 2018.
After she was jailed, she was accused of plotting to have her former husband, John Roever, killed, according to prosecutors.
Roever’s attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
