One in custody, two hospitalized after car crashes into parked semi-truck Saturday
One person is in police custody and three others are injured after a car drove into a parked semi-truck at a high rate of speed early Saturday morning, police said.
The crash occurred around 2:20 a.m. Saturday, said Kansas City Police Department spokeswoman Doaa Al-Ashkar in a news release.
The car was traveling north on Topping Avenue near 39th Terrace without headlights on when it hit the parked truck, the release said.
According to police, a witness saw the driver climb out of the vehicle and drag a front seat passenger into a wooded area east of the crash scene. The driver then went behind a nearby apartment building where officers found and arrested him.
Two passengers in the back seat, a man and a woman, were brought to the hospital. The man was suffering from serious injuries and the woman was in critical condition.
The front seat passenger, who was found in the wooded area, suffered minor injuries.
Police said they are investigating the driver, who had minor injuries, for impairment.
