Kansas City, Kansas, man charged in fatal shooting that left young father dead

A 31-year-old man has been charged in the shooting death of another man that occurred earlier this month in a Kansas City, Kansas, neighborhood, police announced Thursday.

According to a statement from Kansas City, Kansas, police, Tika Ram Sarki has been arrested and charged in connection with the June 4 shooting that killed 26-year-old Narbu Tamang.

Sarki, a Kansas City, Kansas, resident, is charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault in Wyandotte County District Court, according to charging documents provided by the district attorney’s office.

The shooting was reported just before 8 p.m. in the 3400 block of Barnett Avenue, according to police. Officers located Tamang, who had been shot. He died at the scene.

Tamang was a husband and father of one who helped take care of his sick wife and mother, according to a relative. A GoFundMe page set up to help the family cover funeral expenses has raised over $6,700 as of Thursday.

Ram Rai said his nephew, Tamang, was at home on June 4, watching his baby boy. Later in the day, Rai said, Tamang was picked up by a friend and taken to another location, where a fight broke out among a group of people. Shots were fired, Rai said he was told by a witness, and someone shot Tamang as he tried to run away and hide. It’s unclear what led up to the gunfire.
