Man found fatally shot in Northland Price Chopper parking lot, KC police say
A man died after being shot in the parking lot of a Price Chopper grocery store in the Northland late Monday afternoon, according to Kansas City police.
The shooting was reported before 5:30 p.m. in the parking lot of the store at 9717 N. Ash Ave.
Arriving police officers found a man who had been shot inside a car, according to Officer Doaa El-Ashkar, a Kansas City police spokeswoman. The victim, whose identity has not been released, died at the scene.
Witnesses told detectives that a male suspect left in a vehicle.
No further details on the suspect have been released.
Detectives were continuing to gather information Monday evening. Part of the parking lot was blocked off as police investigated.
“As you can see here, it’s quite a big parking lot. There are still quite a few people to talk to, so the detectives are still canvassing, still trying to talk to witnesses, trying to find out what happened here today,” El-Ashkar told reporters.

The killing Monday is the 83rd homicide reported in Kansas City this year, according to data kept by The Star. By this time last year, the city recorded 60 homicides.
