Man fatally shot during robbery Sunday outside Troost Avenue apartment, police say

Kansas City police are investigating a homicide after a man was fatally shot during a robbery Sunday morning.

Police were called to an apartment complex in the 4100 block of Troost Avenue about 6:50 a.m. after gunshots were heard, said Sgt. Jacob Becchina, a Kansas City Police Department spokesman.

Officers found a man with a gunshot wound in the parking lot behind Hyde Point Apartments, Becchina said. The victim, who has not yet been publicly identified, was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Police believe the man was shot during a robbery. No suspect information was available Sunday morning.

The homicide victim Sunday morning was the 82nd in Kansas City this year, according to data kept by The Star, which includes police shootings.

An award up to $25,000 is available for information leading to an arrest in this case, police said.

Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS. Callers may remain anonymous.
