One dead, four injured in overnight shooting at 18th and Vine in Kansas City

Update: Police identified the victim as 27-year-old Montel Ridley.

One person was killed and four were injured in an early morning shooting at 18th and Vine streets in Kansas City, police said Saturday.

Just after 2:30 a.m. officers were called to the area because of the shooting and to the Truman Medical Center when several shooting victims arrived at the hospital, according to an press release from Kansas City Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jacob Becchina.

An adult man died from his injuries, Becchina said. The other four victims, three men and one woman, were in stable condition as of Saturday morning.

Based on the preliminary investigation, Becchina said, police believe several people began shooting after an argument broke out in a parking lot.

The killing was the 81st homicide in Kansas City this year according to data kept by The Star which includes fatal police shootings. There had been 59 by this time last year.
