Dog walker finds man fatally shot in grass early Wednesday in Kansas City

The body of a man fatally shot overnight in Kansas City was discovered by someone walking their dog early Wednesday, police said.

Officers were called just after 3 a.m. to the area of Bannister Road and Newton Avenue, Kansas City Police spokesman Sgt. Jacob Becchina said in an email Wednesday.

Police found a body in the grass north of Bannister Road, Becchina said. The man appeared to have been shot.

The man’s identification had not been made public Wednesday afternoon.

The shooting is under investigation. No suspect information was available.

The man was the 79th homicide victim in Kansas City this year, according to data kept by The Star, which includes police shootings.

Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
