Man found on Kansas City sidewalk with gunshot wound dies overnight
A man found shot on a sidewalk late Tuesday in Kansas City has died, police said.
Officers responded to a shots fired call about 10:45 p.m. in the 3400 block of Independence Avenue, Kansas City Police spokesman Sgt. Jacob Becchina said in an email.
Police found a man on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital where he died soon after. The victim’s name has not yet been released.
Witnesses told police they saw an unknown vehicle drive off after they heard gunshots, Becchina said.
The shooting is under investigation. No suspect information was available as of Wednesday afternoon.
It was the 78th homicide in Kansas City this year, according to data kept by The Star, which includes police shootings.
