Shooting reported on Centennial Bridge over Missouri River, Leavenworth police say
Update: Police provided more details Wednesday afternoon, saying a Fort Leavenworth soldier stopped an active shooter on the bridge. That story is posted here.
A shooting was under investigation Wednesday on the Centennial Bridge over the Missouri River at Leavenworth, Police Chief Pat Kitchens said.
Police said the bridge would be closed for several hours following an “emergency situation.” The situation is over, according to a Facebook post from the Leavenworth Police Department, but officers are continuing to investigate.
A picture submitted to The Star shows an officer pointing a gun at the driver’s side of a white truck. The truck appears to have collided with a black car . A second officer is seen behind the black vehicle while three other people stand behind two police cars.
Another picture shows a line of several vehicles stopped on the bridge behind the officers.
The bridge connects Leavenworth, Kansas, to Platte County, Missouri. It’s unclear when the bridge will reopen.
Police asked people to stay away from the area.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
