Kansas City police investigate after person killed in stabbing Tuesday night
Kansas City police were investigating after a person died in a stabbing Tuesday night.
According to Capt. David Jackson, a police spokesman, officers were called to 18th Street and Prospect Avenue before 7:30 p.m. on a reported stabbing outside a store.
Officers found the victim and began CPR other life-saving measures, but the person died at the scene.
An employee from the nearby store indicated to police that the incident involved a shoplifter, Jackson said. No further details have been released.
A person of interest was taken into custody.
Police were investigating the death as a homicide.
The killing is the 72nd homicide reported in Kansas City this year, according to data maintained by The Star. By this time last year, the city recorded 55 homicides.
