One dead, one injured after shooting Saturday night in Kansas City
One man was killed and another man was hospitalized after a shooting overnight in Kansas City, police said.
Police were notified of shots fired just before 11:15 p.m. Saturday near Crestview Drive and Bannister Road, Kansas City Police spokesman Sgt. Jacob Becchina said in an email.
While police were investigating a potential crime scene near the intersection, officers found a vehicle stopped nearby, west of Bannister Road and U.S. 71 highway.
A man was found shot inside the vehicle, Becchina said. He was declared dead at the scene.
Around this time, police were told a second shooting victim had been taken to the hospital in a private vehicle. He was treated for life-threatening injuries and his condition was upgraded to stable Sunday morning.
Police believe both men were victims of the same shooting.
The homicide victim Saturday night was the 66th in Kansas City this year, according to data kept by The Star, which includes police shootings.
An award up to $25,000 is available for information leading to an arrest in this case, police said.
Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
Gun violence will be the subject of a new, statewide journalism project The Star is undertaking in Missouri this year in partnership with the national service program Report for America. As part of this project, The Star will seek the community’s help.
