An ‘unfortunate series of events’ results in KCK homicide investigation, police say
One person died Friday after a shooting in the 6300 block of Oak Grove Road in Kansas City, Kansas, police posted on Twitter Saturday morning.
Just before 6 p.m. Friday, a person was shot “during an incident,” according to a post on the Kansas City, Kansas, Police Department Twitter. The victim, was transported to a hospital where they died.
The incident was initially identified as a manslaughter in the post, though department spokeswoman Nancy Chartrand said that it should not have been.
The case is officially a homicide investigation, Chartrand said. It cannot be classified as manslaughter until an investigation confirms the facts of the situation.
“Facts may play out that the suspect believed that their act did not have the ability to take that life, and thus eventually be termed manslaughter,” Chartrand said in a text to The Star.
“This was an incident that took place amongst what appears to have been friends and due to an unfortunate series of events resulted in homicide.”
Those involved, Chartrand said, appear to be cooperating with police. She did not provide any additional details about the incident or victim.
