KC police investigate after man found dead Saturday at Independence and Forest avenues

Kansas City police are investigating a suspicious death after the body of a man was found on a sidewalk early Saturday near Independence and Forest avenues.

Police were called to the area just after 7 a.m. for a medical call, Kansas City Police Department spokesman Jacob Becchina said.

When they arrived they found the man unresponsive. He was declared dead at the scene, Becchina said.

“We do not know the cause of death at this time,” Becchina said.

Police were speaking with people in the area who may have information about what happened.

“The circumstances are suspicious,” Becchina said. “We take all these precautions now because we only get one shot on this crime scene.”

The medical examiner, Becchina said, will make the final determination of a cause of death.

Independence Avenue was closed in both directions for investigation Saturday morning and reopened just before 11 a.m.

Anyone with information or who saw anything in this area is asked to call the Kansas City Police Department Homicide Unit directly at 816 -234-5043 or the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS.
